Srinagar, Aug 28: The newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Sujit Kumar on Friday said anti-militancy operations would continue to remain the top priority of the police in Kashmir.

Kumar, who took charge as IGP Kashmir yesterday, said anti militancy operations were the first priority for them.
"The operations were our first priority, and they are still our priority," the IGP told reporters during his visit to the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar, while responding to a question about the recent arrests of several overground workers (OGWs) and recoveries made during counter-militancy operations across the Valley.
Kumar said that in view of the large gatherings on the occasion of Friday following Eid-e-Milad, the police were focused on ensuring the peaceful and smooth conduct of prayers .
He said police were also assessing coordination between the police team and other security and civil agencies to ensure effective management of gatherings and maintain security.
Kumar said similar arrangements were being reviewed at other locations in Srinagar, while appealing to people to cooperate with the police and security agencies.
He assured the public that the zonal police remained committed to their safety and urged people to extend support to the police in maintaining peace and security.
The IGP sought cooperation from the public in maintaining peace and law and order, acknowledging that heightened security arrangements and traffic restrictions could cause inconvenience to commuters, particularly around major religious gatherings.
