Chandel, Manipur, Feb 21: The Assam Rifles, under the Spear Corps, distributed manual weaving looms to residents of Aivomjang, New Lajang, and Yangnomphai villages in Chandel district as part of their ongoing Civic Action Programme (CAP). The initiative aims to promote sustainable livelihoods and empower local communities, especially women.

Nearly 300 villagers benefited from the programme, gaining access to the tools and skills needed to produce traditional woven products. Officials highlighted that weaving has been an integral part of the region’s cultural heritage, and the intervention seeks to combine tradition with economic opportunity.
The CAP officials emphasized that empowering women through such livelihood initiatives not only enhances household income but also strengthens community resilience. Training and guidance were provided alongside the looms to ensure proper utilization and to help participants develop marketable skills.
Residents expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles for supporting self-reliance and fostering socio-economic development in remote areas. Such initiatives reflect the broader objective of the Armed Forces to contribute to community welfare while promoting local crafts and cultural preservation.
