Imphal/Kohima, Sep 5: Strengthening community engagement and promoting health and well-being, the Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps conducted a series of welfare initiatives across Manipur and Nagaland, extending medical assistance, health awareness and youth-oriented support to local communities.

The initiatives were aimed at improving access to basic healthcare, encouraging preventive health practices and strengthening the bond of trust between the security forces and people in remote and underserved areas.
At Kangpokpi in Manipur, the Assam Rifles organised a medical camp for villagers, providing medical consultations, treatment and health screening. The initiative offered residents an opportunity to access basic healthcare services and seek medical advice without having to travel long distances.
Medical personnel also interacted with villagers and provided guidance on maintaining healthy lifestyles and addressing common health concerns. The camp was part of the force’s continued efforts to take essential healthcare services closer to communities in difficult-to-reach areas.
In Peren district of Nagaland, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Community Health Centre (CHC), Tening, organised another welfare initiative that combined medical assistance with youth-oriented support. Medical aid was provided to residents, while sports items were distributed to encourage young people to participate in physical activities and sports.
The programme also featured awareness sessions on hygiene, sanitation and prevention of seasonal diseases. Participants were sensitised about the importance of maintaining clean surroundings, adopting healthy habits and taking timely preventive measures against illnesses that commonly increase during seasonal changes.
At Chieswema in Nagaland, an annual health-screening programme was conducted for students. The initiative focused on preventive healthcare and encouraged young people to develop healthy lifestyle practices from an early age.
The health screening provided students with an opportunity to receive basic medical assessment while also creating awareness about personal hygiene, nutrition, physical fitness and the importance of regular health check-ups.
The series of initiatives reflects the Assam Rifles’ continued emphasis on community welfare, preventive healthcare and youth empowerment alongside its operational responsibilities.
By combining medical outreach with awareness programmes and support for sports activities, the initiatives sought to address immediate community needs while encouraging healthier and more active lifestyles among residents, particularly children and youth.
Such welfare activities also serve to strengthen interaction between security personnel and local communities, creating greater opportunities for dialogue and cooperation. Regular engagement at the grassroots level helps build mutual confidence and reinforces the sense of partnership between the security forces and the people they serve.
The initiatives across Manipur and Nagaland reaffirmed the Assam Rifles’ commitment to supporting community well-being, empowering youth and fostering stronger relations with people in remote and strategically important areas.
