Imphal, Manipur , Sep 18: Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to humanitarian service, the Assam Rifles extended timely relief to families affected by the recent flood-like conditions in Porompat, Imphal East. As rising waters disrupted normal life and displaced residents, Assam Rifles stepped in to provide critical support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking shelter in local relief camps.
In a well-coordinated operation, a team from Assam Rifles visited three relief camps in the Khurai area, where over 70 displaced individuals, including women, children, and elderly persons, had taken refuge after their homes were inundated.
The team distributed:
Safe drinking water
Essential food supplies
Basic sanitation materials
These relief materials were aimed at addressing the immediate needs of the flood victims and easing their hardships in the face of deteriorating living conditions.
Local residents expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Assam Rifles for their prompt response and community outreach. Many stated that the support brought a sense of reassurance during a time of uncertainty and distress.
Officials from Assam Rifles stated that the force remains vigilant and ready to assist civil authorities in ongoing rescue and relief efforts, especially in remote or underserved areas. The team also assessed further requirements at the camps and pledged continued assistance in coordination with local administration.
This humanitarian action highlights the dual role of the Assam Rifles—not only as guardians of national security but also as first responders during natural disasters in the Northeast. Their efforts in Porompat reflect the force's enduring motto: “Friends of the Hill People.”
