
Rajouri Nov 23:The concluding ceremony of the ‘Poonch-Day Celebrations 2025’ was held today at Natu Auditorium, Poonch, marking the finale of a month-long series of events commemorating the 78th anniversary of the historic 1948 military link-up. The event was presided over by the General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps, Lieutenant General P.K. Mishra The celebrations honoured the extraordinary moment in 1948 when the Indian Army and the resilient people of Poonch together broke a prolonged 15-month siege and secured the town’s liberation. Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Mishra highlighted the deep-rooted bond between the people of Poonch and the Indian Army, describing the day as a symbol of courage, unity, and shared sacrifice Lt Gen P.K. Mishra, in his address, said that Poonch has always embodied unmatched resilience and patriotism. He noted that the spirit of 1948 continues to inspire generations and the strong civilian–Army partnership remains the backbone of peace and progress in the region. He appreciated the unwavering support of the people of Poonch, stating that their commitment has always strengthened the Army’s resolve The GOC reaffirmed that the Indian Army will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the citizens in safeguarding harmony, security and development Throughout the month, a series of humanitarian, community welfare, and youth-centric activities were organised across the district. Medical camps provided essential healthcare services to large numbers of local residents, while a district-wide drug awareness rally—featuring enthusiastic participation from school children—spread the message of a drug-free society. Ration distribution drives extended support to underprivileged families, and widespread tree plantation activities reflected a collective commitment to environmental protection and a greener future for Poonch.
A central blood donation drive became one of the standout initiatives, drawing voluntary participation from both Army personnel and civilians. To encourage young talent a Talent Hunt Competition and an Arts & Science Exhibition were organised, offering students a platform to showcase creativity, innovation and artistic skills Lt Gen Mishra appreciated the young performers and participants, noting that the talent hunt represented unity, aspirations and the vibrancy of the youth of Poonch. He said that such initiatives strengthen community ties and nurture a sense of pride responsibility and national belonging among the younger generation
A major humanitarian endeavour this year was the Artificial Limb Fitment Camp held from November 13 to 15. Organised jointly by Pritam Spiritual Foundation, Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayata Samiti and the Indian Army, the camp benefitted over 200 differently-abled individuals by providing artificial limbs, wheelchairs, crutches and other mobility aids—restoring confidence and offering a renewed sense of dignity and hope As the ceremony concluded, the GOC, White Knight Corps, extended heartfelt gratitude to War Widows and Ex-Servicemen for their unwavering courage, sacrifice and invaluable contribution to the nation, acknowledging them as the true pillars of India’s strength and honour
