
Empowerment of women is a process that leads women to claim their rights to have access to equal opportunities in economic,cultural, social and political spheres of life and realise their full potential. This progress has to
go together with their freedom to work to
influence the direction of social change. Indeed, empowerment is a bottom-up process rather than something that can be formulated as a top -down strategy.
Indian Army's Kupwara Terriers aligned with this ideology has been working constantly towards an empowerment approach to enable women of Kupwara to assess their situation and shape a transformation in society critically.
On 24 Feb 202, 20 women from the villages of Kunan Poshpora who stitched & embroidered more than 11000 National Flags on the special occasions of Republic and Independence day during last 2 years were felicitated by Indian Army's Kupwara Terriers at BHS Kunan. Besides these skilled women Girls from Kupwara Women Football team and Wushu Academy Kupwara were also felicitated.
Commanding Officer Kupwara Terriers graced the occasion as Chief Guest along with other officers, villagers Children and about 120 women from Kunan Poshpora village. The Chief guest highlighted the need of women empowerment in modern era. He emphasized that women are not only equal to mention but they are more important then men. Commanding officer assured all women present at the Occasion for every possible support from Indian Army.
The villagers and women thanked Indian Army for such precious support and hope for the same kind of support in future also.
The ultimate goal of women’s empowerment is for women themselves to be the active agents of change in transforming general perception of society and Indian Army is always on the forefront to initiate such endeavours to empower women from weaker and less privileged sections of society in J&K especially in remote areas like Kupwara.
