Srinagar, Jan 30: The Indian Army fired warning shots Thursday night after multiple Pakistani drones were reportedly spotted near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said Friday.

The drones were detected in the Keran sector, flying close to the LoC, prompting the Army to respond with warning fire. Following the action, the drones reportedly retreated. The Keran sector is strategically sensitive due to its proximity to traditional infiltration routes historically used by terrorists.
While defence sources have not officially commented on the incident, security agencies note that drones along the LoC and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir have largely been concentrated in the Jammu sector in recent years, with sightings and interceptions reported in districts like Samba, Kathua, and Jammu.
The appearance of Pakistani drones in the Keran sector introduces a new security challenge, as such drones could be used for surveillance or to facilitate infiltration, including dropping weapons, communication devices, or narcotics.
The LoC in Kashmir has remained largely calm since Operation Sindoor last year, with no major ceasefire violations reported post-operation. Earlier this year, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stated that 139 ceasefire violations occurred in 2025, of which 124 took place during Operation Sindoor.
This incident underscores the evolving threat landscape along the LoC, highlighting the need for continuous vigilance and readiness in sensitive border sectors.
