Srinagar, Sep 11: A young woman from the remote Mawarhanwara area of Kashmir has turned her dream of becoming a doctor into reality, overcoming geographical challenges, social taboos and limited educational opportunities along the way.

An alumna of Army Goodwill School (AGS) Nogam, she qualified the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in 2019 and went on to pursue medical education. She completed her MBBS from Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla in 2025.

She has now appeared for the postgraduate medical entrance examination in 2026 and plans to continue her medical training through postgraduate studies.

Recalling her journey, she said growing up in a remote area presented several challenges, particularly for girls seeking educational opportunities beyond their villages. Social apprehensions surrounding girls studying away from home and attending Army Goodwill Schools added to those difficulties.

She credited her family, teachers and the environment at AGS for helping her remain focused on her goals. Her elder brother, an alumnus of AGS Pahalgam who is serving in the Army, was among her major sources of inspiration.

She said her brother's discipline and confidence encouraged her to join the Army Goodwill School, where she found an environment that strengthened her academic focus and confidence.

According to her, the teachers at AGS played an important role in shaping her journey by providing guidance, encouragement and confidence. She also highlighted the role of disciplined educational environments in helping young people stay away from substance abuse and other negative influences.

Sharing a message for Kashmiri youth, she urged students to give priority to education, remain disciplined and make constructive choices about their future. She particularly called upon young people to stay away from substance abuse and other destructive habits.

Her journey from a remote area of Kashmir to completing medical education highlights the role of family support, dedicated teachers and access to quality education in helping young people overcome social and geographical barriers.
