
Rajouri, Jan 23: Heavy snowfall and continuous rainfall have severely disrupted normal life across the entire Pir Panjal region, leading to the closure of several vital roads and highways.Major roads rendered inaccessible include the Thannamandi–DKG–Bufliaz Road, Alal Road, Dara Road, and multiple interior and link roads in the Koteranka and Budhal areas, causing widespread inconvenience to commuters and residents.The Jammu–Poonch National Highway (NH-144A) also remained closed at Tota Gali due to nearly two feet of accumulated snow, resulting in a large number of stranded buses, trucks, and private vehicles.Responding swiftly to the developing situation, the Indian Army’s Romeo Force (RR) launched prompt relief operations and provided assistance to around 110 stranded civilians. The Army personnel distributed hot food, tea, and warm clothing, with special care extended to children and vulnerable individuals.To restore traffic movement and ensure public safety, JCB machinery was requisitioned and deployed for snow clearance and effective traffic management. The timely intervention by the Army ensured the safety of civilians and significantly alleviated hardship during the severe weather conditions.The Indian Army, particularly the Romeo Force, once again demonstrated its commitment to the welfare of the local population by bridging critical gaps during emergencies, while continuing to maintain robust security and humanitarian support in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
