Manipur, Nov 26: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Assam Rifles, in coordination with BSF, Machi Police, and Tengnoupal Forest Department, destroyed 10 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in Machi, Tengnoupal district of Manipur on 24 November 2025. The operation led to the uprooting of approximately 100 kilograms of mature poppy crop, estimated to be worth around Rs 1.73 crore, effectively targeting illegal narcotics networks operating near the Indo-Myanmar border.
Officials said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and disrupt the supply chain of opium-based narcotics in the region. The destroyed crops were being cultivated illegally and posed a serious threat to public health and security.
The coordinated action involved surveillance, field raids, and meticulous uprooting of the poppy plants, ensuring that the narcotics network operating in remote areas faced a substantial setback. Authorities emphasized that such operations send a strong message to narcotics traffickers that cross-border drug cultivation and smuggling will not be tolerated.
Local law enforcement and forest officials are expected to continue monitoring the area to prevent re-cultivation, while Assam Rifles and BSF units remain vigilant along the porous Indo-Myanmar border to combat illicit drug activities effectively.
The operation highlights the commitment of security forces in northeastern India to dismantle narco networks and protect the region from illegal drug trade.
