September 03, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Chandel, Sep 2: Alert troops of Assam Rifles, acting on continuous surveillance and credible intelligence inputs, foiled an attempted infiltration into Indian territory and apprehended four armed insurgent operatives in Manipur’s Chandel district.

The operation was launched at around 5 pm on August 31, 2026, with two Assam Rifles columns deployed along Border Pillars 58–60 in the Chandel area.
According to the force, the operation followed sustained surveillance and intelligence-based inputs regarding movement along the sensitive border stretch. Troops swiftly carried out area domination and intercepted four armed individuals allegedly attempting to enter Indian territory.
The personnel also thwarted their reported attempt to escape back towards Myanmar, resulting in the apprehension of all four individuals.
The apprehended persons were identified as three cadres of UNLF (K) and one cadre of PREPAK, according to Assam Rifles.
Following the operation, the four individuals were handed over to Molcham Police Station in Chandel district for further legal proceedings.
The successful interception highlighted the importance of sustained surveillance and coordinated intelligence-based operations along the India-Myanmar border, particularly in vulnerable areas of Manipur.
Security forces have maintained heightened vigilance along the border to prevent unauthorised movement and infiltration, with area domination and intelligence-led deployments forming a key component of their operational strategy.
The operation also demonstrated the role of timely intelligence inputs and swift troop mobilisation in detecting and preventing attempts to cross the border.
Further investigation by the police is expected to establish the identities, affiliations and other details of the apprehended individuals, as well as the circumstances surrounding their alleged movement into Indian territory.
The Assam Rifles said the operation reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining vigilance along the border and preventing unlawful activities while ensuring security in the region.
