Shillong, Sep 24: The Assam Rifles Annual Communication Conference 2026 was conducted at Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles (HQ DGAR), Shillong, on September 24-25, with a focus on strengthening communication infrastructure, IT architecture and operational connectivity.

The conference was held under the aegis of Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles, and chaired by Col Apurva Bhatnagar, VSM, Chief Signal Officer, HQ DGAR, along with the Signals team.
Communication Staff Officers from various Assam Rifles formations and senior representatives of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) attended the conference. Shri Yash Panhekar, Chief General Manager, BSNL North East Circle, was also present.
Deliberations during the conference focused on communication planning for formations and under-command units, augmentation of existing communication infrastructure and measures to improve operational connectivity.
The participants also discussed futuristic communication projects aimed at strengthening the force’s IT and communication architecture and enhancing its ability to maintain reliable connectivity across challenging operational areas.
The conference provided a platform for communication specialists and stakeholders to review existing capabilities, identify infrastructure requirements and deliberate on technology-driven solutions for future operational needs.
The event underscored the importance of robust, secure and resilient communication networks in supporting effective coordination, information flow and operational preparedness.
The Assam Rifles said the conference reaffirmed its focus on modernising communication systems and adopting futuristic technologies to further strengthen operational connectivity.
