Diyun, May 23: Assam Rifles organised a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Diyun on May 22, 2026, in memory of Rifleman (Late) Avtar Chakma, paying tribute to his sacrifice in service of the nation.

The ceremony was attended by Assam Rifles personnel, civil dignitaries, local representatives and members of the community, who gathered to offer heartfelt respects to the fallen soldier. Floral tributes were laid and prayers were offered in his honour.
Speaking on the occasion, officials highlighted the courage and dedication of Rifleman Avtar Chakma, remembering his service as an inspiration for both the force and the local youth. The gathering reaffirmed the commitment to uphold the legacy of soldiers who laid down their lives for the country.
As part of the commemorative events, a football tournament was also inaugurated in his memory to promote youth engagement, sportsmanship and community unity. Officials said the initiative aims to channel young energy into positive activities while keeping the memory of the braveheart alive.
In addition, a free medical and eye check-up camp was organised for local residents, providing healthcare services and consultations to the community as part of Assam Rifles’ outreach efforts.
The events collectively reflected a blend of remembrance, service and community engagement, reinforcing the bond between the security forces and the people of the region.
