Tengnoupal, Jan 12: The Assam Rifles organized a solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony at its Battalion Headquarters in Tengnoupal District on January 12, 2026, to pay tribute to Lance Naik Kameswar Ram (Late), who made the ultimate sacrifice during Operation “Rakshak” in Jammu and Kashmir in 1997.

The ceremony was attended by senior officers, jawans, and families of personnel, who gathered to honour the bravery, dedication, and selfless service of Lance Naik Kameswar Ram. The event commenced with a brief recitation of the regimental anthem, followed by a ceremonial wreath-laying at the memorial dedicated to fallen soldiers.
Commanding officers highlighted the heroism displayed by Lance Naik Kameswar Ram during counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that his courage and commitment continue to inspire serving personnel. A two-minute silence was observed in solemn remembrance of his sacrifice, underscoring the regiment’s respect for its martyrs.
Officers also spoke about the enduring legacy of the Assam Rifles in protecting the nation’s borders and maintaining peace in challenging operational environments. The ceremony served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers to uphold the sovereignty and security of India.
