New Delhi, Aug 11: Assam Rifles was recognised for its outstanding contribution towards promoting procurement from Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), during the platform’s 10th Foundation Day celebrations held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on August 10, 2026.
The recognition was presented by Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal to Assam Rifles for recording the maximum order value to MSEs under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) category on GeM.
The achievement highlights the force’s emphasis on transparent, efficient and inclusive procurement practices while providing greater market opportunities to India’s micro and small enterprises.
GeM has emerged as a key platform for government procurement, enabling public institutions to access goods and services through a transparent and technology-driven system. Increased participation of MSEs on the platform has also helped expand their access to government buyers and strengthen their role in the national supply chain.
For Assam Rifles, the recognition reflects its efforts to align procurement practices with the broader objectives of transparency, efficiency and support for domestic enterprises. By placing significant orders with MSEs, the force has contributed to creating business opportunities for smaller enterprises and encouraging wider participation in public procurement.
The achievement also aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, which seeks to strengthen domestic manufacturing, entrepreneurship and local supply chains. Procurement from MSEs can provide these enterprises with stable institutional markets while supporting employment generation and economic activity.
The recognition at the GeM Foundation Day event underscores the growing importance of government procurement in supporting India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. It also highlights how security and government organisations can contribute to economic empowerment through responsible procurement practices.
Assam Rifles’ achievement further reinforces its commitment to adopting modern, accountable and technology-enabled procurement systems while supporting the participation of smaller businesses in the government marketplace.
