Assam Rifles honours 149 retiring personnel

Shillong, Aug 25: Director General Assam Rifles Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, felicitated retiring personnel at a solemn Samman Samaroh held at Headquarters DGAR, Laitkor, Shillong, on Monday.

The ceremony honoured 149 personnel, comprising one officer, 58 Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), 87 Other Ranks (ORs) and three civilian staff members, who are scheduled to superannuate on August 31, 2026.
The event recognised their decades of dedicated, distinguished and selfless service to the nation. The retiring personnel have contributed to the Assam Rifles through years of professional commitment, discipline and service in challenging operational and administrative environments.
The occasion was further enriched by the presence of 78 family members, who travelled from different parts of the country to join their loved ones in marking the important milestone. Their presence acknowledged the significant role families play in supporting personnel throughout their careers.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Lakhera expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the retiring personnel for their unwavering commitment, exemplary professionalism and sacrifices made during their service.
He acknowledged that the contribution of the retiring members extends beyond their individual responsibilities, reflecting the collective traditions of dedication, courage and service associated with the Assam Rifles.
The Samman Samaroh provided an opportunity for the organisation to formally acknowledge the contributions of personnel completing their service and to celebrate their transition into the next phase of life with their families.
