
Imphal, July 3: Assam Rifles paid homage to one of its fallen soldiers by organising a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the 31 Assam Rifles Battalion in Mantripukhri, Imphal East district, Manipur, to commemorate the 36th martyrdom anniversary of Rifleman (Late) N. S. Ramthar.
The commemorative event was held to honour the supreme sacrifice made by the Braveheart, who laid down his life in the line of duty on July 2, 1990, while protecting the nation during a period of heightened insurgency and unrest.
Senior officers, personnel of the battalion and fellow soldiers gathered at the memorial to lay wreaths and pay floral tributes to the fallen soldier. The ceremony was marked by military honours, silence and remembrance, reflecting the deep respect and gratitude of the force for its martyrs.
Rifleman N. S. Ramthar was deployed on a critical railway station protection duty at Harwaphuta Nala in Kokrajhar district of Assam during the turbulent period associated with the Bodoland movement. While performing his assigned duties with courage and dedication, he made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
Officials said his unwavering commitment, courage and devotion to duty continue to inspire generations of Assam Rifles personnel and serve as a shining example of selfless service.
