Itanagar, May 11: Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Spearhead Division under Spear Corps, paid tribute to Lt Col P A Rege, Vir Chakra awardee, by honouring his family at the War Memorial in Aalo, Arunachal Pradesh.
The commemorative event was organised to mark his courage and sacrifice during the 1962 war, during which he played a significant role in defending the nation in extremely challenging operational conditions. The ceremony reflected deep respect for his legacy and contribution to India’s military history.
A formal wreath-laying ceremony was held at the memorial, where senior officers from Assam Rifles and Spearhead Division paid homage to the fallen hero. The event was attended by representatives of the civil administration, public leaders, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and ex-servicemen, all joining in collective remembrance.
As part of the observance, participants also took part in interaction sessions and tree plantation activities, symbolising both remembrance and a commitment to peace, environment, and national heritage. Officials highlighted that such initiatives help strengthen the bond between the armed forces and civil society while preserving the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice.
Speakers at the event reaffirmed the importance of keeping military history alive, especially in border states like Arunachal Pradesh, where the legacy of past conflicts continues to inspire present and future generations.
The programme concluded with a renewed pledge by all participants to uphold the values of courage, service, and national unity embodied by Lt Col P A Rege and other war heroes.
