Ukhrul, Manipur, Aug 28: Reinforcing its commitment to community engagement and environmental sustainability, the Assam Rifles organized an interactive awareness programme on waste management at Somsai, Ukhrul on August 27. The event, held at the Company Operating Base, is part of the force’s broader civic action initiatives aimed at fostering eco-conscious habits among local residents.

The awareness drive focused on educating attendees about the importance of proper waste segregation, recycling practices, and minimizing single-use plastic. Through demonstrations, interactive sessions, and discussions, participants were guided on practical steps to implement waste management solutions in their daily lives.
Local community members, school students, and village elders actively participated in the event. The Assam Rifles personnel emphasized the impact of individual responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment, particularly in ecologically sensitive regions like Ukhrul.
The programme also included a plantation drive and distribution of reusable bags to encourage reduction of plastic dependency. Residents lauded the effort, expressing appreciation for the force’s role beyond security—actively contributing to the development and well-being of the community.
