Assam Rifles pays tribute to bravehearts who fell on July 28

The Director General of Assam Rifles, Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, along with all ranks of the force, paid heartfelt tribute to the gallant soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty on this day in years past.
In a solemn ceremony held at Assam Rifles Headquarters, wreaths were laid in honour of the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice on July 28 during various counter-insurgency and operational deployments. The day was observed with dignity and reverence, with officers and jawans alike standing in silent remembrance of their fallen comrades.
Lt Gen Lakhera, while addressing the gathering, said, "The courage and devotion displayed by our soldiers continue to inspire every member of Assam Rifles. Their sacrifice is a reminder of our sacred duty to protect the nation, no matter the cost."
He reiterated the force’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in the North Eastern states and along the Indo-Myanmar border. He also emphasized the need to uphold the highest standards of discipline and operational excellence in honour of the fallen heroes.
The event saw participation from both serving personnel and veterans, many of whom shared memories and anecdotes that highlighted the valor and selflessness of those commemorated.
Assam Rifles, known as the “Sentinels of the Northeast,” has a long and storied history of service to the nation, particularly in counter-insurgency operations. The force has lost many of its brave personnel in fierce encounters over the decades. Ceremonies like today’s serve as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of peace and sovereignty.
The families of the martyrs were also remembered, with senior officials assuring continued support and solidarity.
As the bugle sounded the last post, the air was filled with a solemn vow — to never forget the heroes who gave their all for India.
