Kohima, Oct 27: The Assam Rifles held a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at its Kohima Garrison to honour the memory of three brave soldiers — Rifleman (Late) Ashok Saikia, Rifleman (Late) Bharat Singh, and Rifleman (Late) Surendra Kumar — who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while combating insurgents in Nagaland.
Senior officers, jawans, and family members of the fallen heroes attended the ceremony, which reflected the deep respect and gratitude of the force towards its martyrs. Wreaths were laid on behalf of the Assam Rifles fraternity, reaffirming their enduring commitment to the ideals of courage, duty, and sacrifice.
Speaking at the event, a senior officer praised the bravery and devotion of the soldiers who gave their lives protecting the nation’s sovereignty and ensuring peace in the region. “Their sacrifice will forever inspire generations of soldiers to uphold the highest traditions of the Indian Armed Forces,” he said.
The ceremony concluded with the sounding of the Last Post and a two-minute silence in remembrance of the departed souls. The event served as a poignant reminder of the Assam Rifles’ legacy as the “Sentinels of the North East” and its unwavering resolve to maintain peace, stability, and security in the region.
