Assam Rifles pays tribute to martyr of 7 June 1962

Shillong, June 7: Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, along with all ranks of the force, paid solemn tribute to a brave soldier who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on June 7, 1962.

The remembrance was observed as part of the force’s tradition of honouring its martyrs who laid down their lives in service to the nation. The occasion served as a reminder of the courage, dedication and selfless commitment of Assam Rifles personnel, who continue to serve in some of the most challenging and sensitive regions of the country.
The Director General and all ranks saluted the fallen soldier, acknowledging his valour and sacrifice as an enduring inspiration for serving personnel. Floral tributes were offered in his memory, and his contribution was recalled with deep respect and gratitude.
Officials said such commemorations strengthen the resolve of the force to uphold its motto of “Sentinels of the North East” and to continue serving the nation with unwavering dedication, discipline and honour.
The tribute concluded with renewed commitment by all ranks to carry forward the legacy of bravery and sacrifice exemplified by martyrs of the force.
