Assam Rifles promotes tribal heritage

July 04, 2026 | BK News Service

Guwahati, July 3: Reinforcing its enduring bond with the people of the Northeast, the Assam Rifles has highlighted its role in preserving the region's rich tribal heritage by supporting the making of "Voices of the Land," a documentary showcasing the culture and traditions of indigenous communities.

Describing itself as not only the "Sentinels of the Northeast" but also the "Friends of the Hill People," the force said its commitment extends beyond security to protecting the region's cultural identity and heritage.
According to Assam Rifles, its personnel facilitated and guided the documentary team through some of the most remote and inaccessible parts of the Northeast, enabling them to document the sacred traditions and way of life of the Khasi, Biate, Angami, Sherdukpen and Mising tribes.
The expedition involved traversing rugged terrain, difficult climatic conditions and areas where connectivity remains limited. Assam Rifles said its troops ensured safe movement of the production team, helping transform challenging routes into opportunities for cultural storytelling.
The force stated that preserving the cultural voices of the Northeast is as important as safeguarding its borders, adding that its long-standing association with local communities has enabled it to contribute meaningfully to the protection and promotion of indigenous traditions.
The documentary, produced by Air India Express in collaboration with Edstead Creation, captures the unique customs, heritage, beliefs and lifestyles of several tribal communities that form the cultural mosaic of the Northeast.
Assam Rifles said the initiative reflects its broader commitment to fostering trust, strengthening community ties and celebrating the diverse heritage of the region while continuing to maintain peace and security.
The documentary "Voices of the Land" is now available for streaming on JioHotstar, offering viewers an opportunity to experience the cultural heartbeat of India's Northeast through the stories of its indigenous communities.
