Chandel, July 2: In a humanitarian initiative aimed at improving access to safe drinking water, the Assam Rifles distributed two 500-litre water storage tanks to T Bollon village in Khengjoi Sub-Division of Chandel district, Manipur.
The initiative was undertaken to address the village's long-standing shortage of safe water, particularly during the dry season when residents face severe difficulties in meeting their daily water requirements.
The distribution programme was attended by around 30 villagers, including community elders, women and youth, reflecting active participation and support from the local population.
Officials said the newly installed water storage tanks are expected to benefit more than 130 residents, significantly improving access to clean water while reducing the hardships caused by seasonal water scarcity.
The villagers welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles for responding to one of the community's basic needs. They said the assistance would help improve hygiene, sanitation and the overall quality of life in the village.
The Assam Rifles said the initiative forms part of its ongoing civic action programmes aimed at strengthening essential infrastructure and improving the well-being of people living in remote and border areas of the Northeast.
Officials reiterated the force's commitment to working closely with local communities through development-oriented initiatives focused on healthcare, education, infrastructure and basic amenities, while fostering trust and cooperation with the local population.
