
Imphal, May 10: Through coordinated efforts with intelligence agencies and local stakeholders, Assam Rifles successfully secured the release of a Tangkhul woman, Olina Ningshen, who was abducted by KNA(B) and VVEZ from Namlee in Manipur.
The rescue operation culminated on May 9, 2026 near Z Choro along the Indo-Myanmar border, where the victim was safely recovered following sustained tracking and coordination between multiple security agencies.
Officials stated that immediately after her recovery, Assam Rifles ensured the victim received medical attention, psychological support, and was safely reunited with her family. The force also provided necessary humanitarian assistance to support her recovery and well-being.
During parallel operations in the affected region, security forces rescued 15 civilians, including women and children, from violence-impacted areas. The individuals were provided immediate relief and humanitarian aid to ensure their safety and stabilization.
In a follow-up action, one armed cadre belonging to KNA(B) was apprehended along with a weapon and ammunition. The arrest is being seen as a significant development in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the region.
