Dimapur, Mar 15: In a unique initiative to promote skill development and sustainable practices, Assam Rifles under Spear Corps conducted a five-day Awareness and Scientific Beekeeping Cadre at Dimapur, Nagaland.
The program brought together troops for intensive training led by experts from the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission. Participants were instructed on modern beekeeping techniques, colony management, and safe honey extraction methods, equipping them with practical skills for both professional and personal applications.
The training emphasized scientific methods for maintaining healthy bee colonies, preventing disease, and maximizing honey yield while ensuring environmental sustainability. Demonstrations included hive construction, feeding protocols, and hands-on sessions in handling bees without causing harm to the colonies or the participants.
Officials noted that the initiative underlines Assam Rifles’ commitment to capacity building, environmental awareness, and community-oriented skill development. By exposing troops to modern agricultural and apicultural practices, the program fosters self-reliance and encourages engagement with local economic and ecological resources.
Participants expressed appreciation for the cadre, highlighting how the knowledge gained could benefit rural communities if shared, and also serve as a potential livelihood opportunity for soldiers post-service.
The Assam Rifles reaffirmed that such initiatives under Operation Sadbhavana are designed not only to enhance troop skill sets but also to strengthen community connections, promote sustainable livelihoods, and support economic development in the Northeast region.
