Peren, Jan 23: In a step toward promoting sustainable livestock management and preserving traditional knowledge, the Assam Rifles recently conducted a one-day training session in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren. The programme, themed “Use of Plant Genetic Resources as Ethno-Veterinary Medicine for Management of Animal Diseases in North East India,” was aimed at benefiting the local villagers of Peren district.
The session focused on ethno-veterinary practices, which involve the use of locally available medicinal plants for the prevention and treatment of animal diseases. Participants were educated on identifying useful plant species, preparing herbal remedies, and applying these solutions safely in daily livestock management. The training emphasized the dual benefits of reducing dependency on chemical medicines and preserving indigenous knowledge that has been passed down through generations.
Through hands-on demonstrations and interactive discussions, villagers gained practical skills to enhance the health and productivity of their livestock while maintaining environmentally sustainable practices. The collaboration with KVK ensured that the knowledge imparted was scientifically backed and locally applicable.
This initiative underscores the Assam Rifles’ commitment not only to security operations but also to the empowerment of local communities, supporting rural livelihoods, traditional knowledge conservation, and sustainable agricultural practices in Nagaland’s remote regions. Villagers expressed appreciation for the training, noting that it would significantly improve animal care and strengthen the local economy.
