Thoubal, Mar 14: In a step aimed at promoting sports and encouraging youth engagement, the Assam Rifles under the aegis of Spear Corps upgraded a badminton court at Leishangthem in the Thoubal district of Manipur on March 13.

The initiative was carried out under the Army’s civic outreach programme, Operation Sadbhavna, which focuses on strengthening ties with local communities while promoting development and youth-oriented activities in remote and sensitive regions.
Officials said the upgraded facility will provide local youth with improved sports infrastructure and a dedicated space to practice badminton and other recreational activities. The initiative is expected to encourage healthy lifestyles, nurture sporting talent and keep young people constructively engaged.
Local residents and youth welcomed the development, expressing appreciation for the efforts made to enhance sports facilities in the area. Community members said the upgraded court would motivate students and young players to participate more actively in sports and community events.
The Assam Rifles has been actively involved in organising sports activities, educational programmes and infrastructure development projects across Manipur as part of Operation Sadbhavna.
