Dimapur, June 16: As part of its ongoing outreach initiative, the Assam Rifles conducted a welfare visit to the residences of three veterans of the 1962 Indo-China conflict in Chapakhowa, Sadiya, in Assam on 16 June 2026.
The team met and interacted with Ex-Rfn/GD Dal Bahadur Limbu (94), Ex-Rfn/GD Bhim Bahadur Gurung (92), and Ex-Rfn/GD Bal Bahadur Rai (94), all of whom served with distinction during the Sino-Indian War while serving in the Assam Rifles.
During the visit, officials assessed the veterans’ health conditions, provided medical consultations, and extended assistance as required. The outreach also included interaction with family members to understand their welfare needs and offer continued institutional support.
The initiative was carried out as a gesture of respect and gratitude for their service and sacrifices made during active duty. It underscored the force’s continued commitment to looking after its veteran fraternity, particularly those who served in critical historical conflicts.
The veterans and their families expressed appreciation for the support and continued engagement from the organisation, acknowledging the efforts of the Veteran Cell and senior leadership, including Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, for maintaining close ties with former personnel.
Officials said such outreach programmes aim to reinforce the enduring bond between serving personnel and veterans while ensuring dignity, care, and recognition for those who contributed to the nation’s security in earlier decades.
