Jammu, Mar 18: Jammu police have issued a public appeal for information, photographs, and video recordings from attendees of a marriage function where National Conference president Farooq Abdullah was targeted in an assassination attempt.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the incident, which took place on March 11 at the Royal Park banquet hall in the Greater Kailash area. Police said the 63-year-old former chief minister narrowly escaped harm when a gunman, identified as Kamal Singh, opened fire as he was leaving the function. Singh was overpowered on the spot and a revolver used in the attack was recovered.
DIG Jammu–Samba–Kathua Range Shiv Kumar Sharma urged all guests and members of the public with digital evidence or relevant information to share it with the investigating team. Contact numbers provided for assistance are 9419150173, 9419131379, and 9419186210.
Jammu Zone Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti emphasized that the SIT, operating under the supervision of the DIG, has been set up considering the “seriousness and sensitivity” of the case. Authorities stated that public cooperation would be crucial in collecting evidence and ensuring a transparent investigation.
The FIR has been registered at Police Station Gangyal, and the SIT is actively examining leads to determine the motive and circumstances behind the attack.
