Baramulla Sports Association led by Omar Kakroo today met with the Hon'ble Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory to discuss key concerns related to sports infrastructure development in Baramulla. The association expressed gratitude to the Hon'ble Lt Governor for his efforts in creating better sports infrastructure in the region over the past four years through the J&K Sports Council.
Cricket Flood Lights for Gen Bipin Rawat Stadium*: The association requested the installation of floodlights at Gen Bipin Rawat Stadium to facilitate night cricket matches and boost the morale of cricket players. This will enable the stadium to host evening matches, promoting cricket and providing opportunities for local talent to shine.
The association urged the Lt Governor to intervene in installing a Hockey Synthetic Turf at Kanispora. This will encourage existing talent and foster the development of future hockey players, promoting the sport and providing world-class facilities for training and tournaments.
Khel Goan Initiative*: The association proposed initiating a "Khel Goan" in Baramulla to promote sports among the older generation, provide a space for retired sports legends, and preserve sporting knowledge for the younger generation. This initiative aims to promote sports as a way of life and create a platform for intergenerational knowledge sharing.
The association requested support in organizing an All India Cricket Tournament, which will put Baramulla on the national sports map and provide a platform for local talents to compete at a higher level. This will promote cricket in the region and provide opportunities for local players to showcase their skills.
The association brought to the Hon'ble Lt Governor's attention the longstanding issue of the incomplete pavilion block at the stadium, pending for 20 years. They sought intervention to complete this essential infrastructure through the J&K Sports Council, which will improve facilities for players and spectators.
The association proposed conducting a sports festival for all indoor and outdoor games across the district. This will promote sports and provide opportunities for athletes to participate in various events, fostering a culture of sports and fitness in the region.
The association requested the timely completion of the sanctioned Football Turf at Azadgunj Baramulla and additional funds for floodlights, changing rooms, and seating arrangements. This will provide a world-class facility for football players and promote the sport in the region.
The association requested renovations to curb dust, echo, and repairs at the Indoor Stadium. This will improve the playing conditions and provide a better environment for athletes to train and compete.
The association highlighted the pending work of indoor stadium at Boys HSS Sopore and requested intervention for its timely completion. This will provide better facilities for youths of sopore & students in promoting sports in Sopore.
The association appreciated the sanctioning of an athletic track at Khushal Stadium Sopore and requested its timely completion. They also sought maintenance of the previous cricket field with proper dimensions, ensuring that the facilities are usable and beneficial for athletes.
Lt.Governor's assured the delegation that proactive support and intervention will significantly contribute to the development of sports infrastructure and activities in District Baramulla. The Delegation look forward to witnessing a positive transformation in the sporting infrastructure & sports activities under "My Youth My Pride", "Khelo India", and other schemes.
We look forward to working together to take Baramulla's sports infrastructure to the next level," said Omar Kakroo, President of the District Baramulla Sports Association.
