Srinagar, September 29: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday once again raised its demand for the removal of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker as the House resumed proceedings amid sharp exchanges between members.

The issue was brought up at the start of the day's session, with BJP legislators reiterating their objections to the Speaker's conduct and the manner in which the House was handled during the previous sitting.

The BJP had earlier submitted a motion seeking the Speaker's removal following disagreements over the conduct of Assembly proceedings and the handling of the resolution seeking restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

The renewed demand led to protests and heated exchanges inside the House as opposition members raised objections during the opening minutes of the session.

Despite the disruption, the Assembly moved ahead with its scheduled business, while differences between the ruling side and the BJP over the Speaker's conduct continued to dominate the proceedings.
