BJP’s Bhat condemns attacks on Kashmiri shawl sellers

February 02, 2026 | SHUGUFTA RASHID/ NISAR MALIK

Srinagar, Feb 1: BJP spokesperson Shri Manzoor Bhat on Sunday strongly condemned the recent attacks on Kashmiri shawl sellers outside the Union Territory, terming the incidents deeply disturbing and unacceptable.

In a statement, Bhat said that Kashmiri shawl sellers travel to different parts of the country in search of livelihood and should be allowed to conduct their business with dignity and without fear. He stressed that acts of violence or harassment against them not only threaten individual safety but also tarnish the spirit of unity and harmony.
Calling for immediate action, the BJP spokesperson urged the concerned state governments and law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of Kashmiri traders and take strict action against those involved in the attacks. He said justice must be delivered swiftly to restore confidence among the business community.
Bhat also appealed to the public to show solidarity with Kashmiri artisans and traders, highlighting that the shawl industry represents centuries-old craftsmanship and provides livelihood to thousands of families in Kashmir.
He reiterated that the BJP stands firmly with the victims and will continue to raise the issue at appropriate forums to ensure that Kashmiri shawl sellers are protected and treated with respect wherever they go in the country.
