
The Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Baramulla, proudly inaugurated the Inter-Zonal District Level Kho-Kho Competitions for Boys (Under-14, Under-17, Under-19) and Girls (Under-19) with great zeal and enthusiasm at Baramulla today.
The opening ceremony was graced by Minga Sherpa (IAS), Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, who formally declared the competitions open. He was accompanied by Iftikhar Naseem (JKAS), District Information Officer Baramulla, and Zahoor Ahmad Wani, DYSSO Baramulla, who jointly flagged off the sporting event amidst loud cheers from the participants.
A total of 500 student-athletes from across 18 educational zones of District Baramulla are showcasing their skills and sportsmanship in the prestigious competitions. The atmosphere at the venue was filled with youthful energy, reflecting the commitment of the district towards promoting grassroots sports.
In the Under-19 Girls’ category, the final match was played between HSS Wagoora and HSS Singpora Kalan, where HSS Singpora Kalan emerged victorious, clinching the title with sheer determination and teamwork.
Adding further significance to the event, the Department of Youth Services and Sports Baramulla also facilitated the distribution of modern sports equipment to all 18 zones, which was ceremoniously handed over by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to the respective representatives. This initiative aims to strengthen the sporting infrastructure at the zonal level and provide equal opportunities to budding athletes.
The competitions will continue tomorrow with further fixtures in the boys’ categories, promising another day of spirited performances and sporting excellence.
