The Youth Services and Sports Department of Baramulla today launched district-level inter-zonal competitions in Volleyball and Handball for young girls, spanning categories under 14, 17, and 19 years of age.
The Volleyball events for the under-14 and under-17 categories began at High School Khawaja Bagh, featuring enthusiastic participation from 36 teams across 18 zones of the district.
Simultaneously, the Handball competitions for under-14, under-17, and under-19 girls were inaugurated at the Indoor Stadium, Khawaja Bagh, drawing 14 spirited teams from various zones.
These tournaments aim to uncover emerging talent, foster teamwork, and serve as a stepping stone toward higher-level competitions—all while providing a valuable platform for young girls to express their sporting potential.
This is part of a broader momentum in Baramulla's sports ecosystem. For instance, previous inter-zonal and zonal tournaments such as Yoga, Taekwondo, Kho-Kho, Table Tennis, and Badminton have witnessed strong participation from girls across different age groups—highlighting a growing culture of inclusive sportsmanship and youth empowerment in the district
