More than a school, a nurturing space where every child is respected, valued, and empowered to grow, explore, and blossom with confidence and creativity
The Parivaar School, set up by the Indrani Balan Foundation collaboration with the Chinar Corps under Operation Sadbhavana, is situated at Dewan Bagh, Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, on NH44 in front of St. Joseph's Hospital. The school was established on October 20, 2021 and has been offering specialized and inclusive education, therapy, and support to 103 children with special needs who suffer from conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disability, Down syndrome, and hearing/speech impairment thus allowing them to join the regular education system.
The school’s approach is simple and powerful; education works best when it meets the unique needs of every child. In traditional classrooms, specially-abled children fall behind, do not feel understood, or withdraw into their own world due to a lack of specialized support. Pariwar School broke this barrier to create a learning environment where differences are understood, patience is valued, and small achievements are celebrated as stepping stones to larger growth. Here, with such a personalized approach, children feel safe, appreciated, and confident enough to explore their abilities without the fear of judgment and comparison.
While walking down the corridors of the school, one notices the harmonious blend of warmth and structure: teachers greet each child with familiarity and genuine care. No child is left behind or invisible, as staff responsiveness ensures the opposite. The classrooms are built to be engaging and calming, with activities adapted to suit different learning styles. Learning is made joyous with teachers who ensure, whether through visual aids, hands-on exercises or guided interactions, that things fall in their place. Over the years of this approach, students and their families have experienced a profound transformation, with relationships strengthened by communities, trust, and emotional growth.
Beyond academics, the school strives for holistic development in its mission. Each day incorporates sessions on motor skill enhancement, speech, cognition, and emotional well-being. While professionals conduct regular therapies, the teaching staff integrates skill-building into daily routines. Art, music, physical activities, and interactive games play a central role in helping children express themselves freely. For many students, these activities become sources of confidence and creativity, offering them moments of joy that strengthen their emotional and social abilities.
Parents often remark that children start to clearly improve once they become part of the school: a better way of communicating, better response to instructions, and more confident participation in social settings. Such progress reflects not only the success of the school's teaching methods but also its unwavering commitment to every child's unique journey. Pariwar School has become a place where families find reassurance, connection, and the hope that their children will continue to grow with dignity and purpose.
A reflection of the progress of the school was marked on its 4th Annual Day, celebrated on 15 November 2025. It was an important day: for the first time, all students, parents, teachers, senior Army officials, and members of the district administration came together. The day was festive and emotional, with every performance carrying a unique significance for the children and families present. It showcased their talent and also the courage, determination, and remarkable progress made by students through months of careful guidance.
The shows began with performances that started with themes such as unity, resilience, and joy. The students performed cultural dances, creative skits, and rhythmic movements that reflected the essence of inclusive learning. Each act was prepared in as much detail as possible, with participation by children according to their comfort and ability. Their confident presence on the stage spoke volumes. Their performance is proof of what a child can accomplish when they have the support they need. Teachers viewing this experience knew their students were experiencing their own sense of accomplishment and pride, reaffirming the value of their work.
The presence of senior Army officials and departmental representatives added a note of encouragement and recognition. Their presence underlined the fact that the school was a community-driven initiative. In their brief interactions, they praised the efforts of the staff and acknowledged the vital role that such institutions play in making society inclusive. Their appreciation strengthened the bond between the school and the extended support system that surrounds it.
Parents among those present experienced a mix of feelings, mainly pride and emotion, when they saw their kids on stage. For many of them, performing was not only a way of showing culture but also a major event that revealed the characteristics of persistence, patience, and unconditional love. It is the very moments that families get to see again the real potential of their kids, which subsequently, with the influence of the proper facilities, they get to believe that nothing can stop a child from growing, learning, and shining in his/her unique way.
The event was brought to a close with words of encouragement, appealing for continued support of such education facilities that empower the vulnerable in society. This was a reminder that inclusive education is not just a service-it is all of our shared responsibility. Annual Day strengthened the vision for the school and rejuvenated the confidence of all families, staff, supporters, and well-wishers alike.
Moving forward, Pariwar School Baramulla continues to be guided by its mission of growth through compassion. The school intends to grow its learning spaces, launch further learning programs, and work with experts who have the potential to increase its influence. All new initiatives have one, and only one, overriding intention: to see every child provided the opportunity to grow into an independent, confident, and emotionally safe person. The school continues to inspire the community that inclusive learning, when met with devotion, love, and compassion, can be an affirming, fulfilling and beautiful possibility, not a burden.
Pariwar School is an educational institution that is still regarded as one of the best in the area, aiming for growth, quietly changing lives, supporting families, and creating a better future for children, to whom nothing less is offered. It is a location where education is actually a source of inspiration, the journey of every child counts, and the community comes together to appreciate the beautiful and powerful diversity of learning.
