In a proud moment for North Kashmir, Anayat Bashir Sheikh, a resident of Vijpora village in Hajin town of Bandipora district, has qualified the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Examination, securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 34.
The achievement has been widely celebrated in his hometown, with locals calling it a source of inspiration for Kashmiri youth aspiring to crack national-level examinations. “It is a matter of great pride for our area. Anayat has shown that with dedication and discipline, our young generation can shine on the biggest platforms,” said a local resident.
Family members expressed immense joy over his success, saying that his years of hard work and determination had finally borne fruit. “He was always focused on his studies and wanted to achieve something remarkable through civil services. Today, his dream has come true,” said a relative.
Coming from a modest background, with his father working as a farmer and his mother as a homemaker, Anayat’s journey is a testament to perseverance and sacrifice. Married and a father of two, he balanced family responsibilities, a full-time government job, and the demanding schedule of UPSC preparation. Since 2015, he has been serving as a Panchayat Secretary in the Rural Development Department and was posted in Block Naidkhai of Sumbal when he achieved this milestone.
Recalling his challenging journey, Anayat said, “I used to wake up at 4 a.m. and study till 8 or 9 before leaving for work. Balancing my job and preparation was extremely difficult, but with my family’s support and the guidance of my friend, Professor Manzoor Sahib, I was able to succeed. I am very grateful to him.”
He also credited his inspiration to Syed Aadil from Baramulla, who cleared the civil services in 2022, and to Anika Ma’am from Lucknow, whose online coaching strengthened his preparation.
Sharing a message for aspirants, Anayat emphasized the importance of discipline and time management. “Time is precious. Once it’s gone, it never comes back. Use it wisely, stay consistent, and focus on your goals. If you work hard with honesty, success will definitely come,” he advised.
Despite the challenges of working and raising a family, Anayat acknowledged the crucial role of his parents in supporting him throughout his journey. “I owe a lot to them. Their support made this success possible,” he said.
Political leaders, neighbours, and well-wishers visited Anayat’s home to congratulate him, stressing that his achievement should motivate more youth to prepare for competitive examinations.
