Budget session of J&K Assembly begins from Mar 3

The first budget session of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Legislative Assembly will start from March 3.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has summoned the Assembly from March 3.
“I, Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Section 18(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, do hereby summon the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to meet at Jammu on Monday, the 3rd day of March, 2025 at 10:00 AM,” reads the order issued by the LG.
The 21-day budget session will commence with the customary address of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on March 3.
It would be for the first time in the last six years that the annual budget of Jammu and Kashmir will be presented.
Every legislator can submit 10 starred and 10 non starred questions upto 3 bills and 4 resolutions by or before February 16.
The last budget of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir by an elected government was presented in 2018.
The last budget of Rs 80,313 crore for financial year 2018-19 was presented by the then Finance Minister Dr. Haseeb Drabu on January 11, 2018.
After the fall of the then PDP-BJP coalition government led by Mehbooba Mufti in June 2018, the assembly was dissolved in November 2018.
The then State Administrative Council (SAC) headed by the then Governor Satya Pal Malik adopted a budget of Rs 88,911 crore for 2019-2020 on December 15, 2018.
After the abrogation of Article 370 and downgrading and bifurcation of erstwhile J&K state into two Union Territories on August 5, 2109, the the budgets of the Union Territory including 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25 were presented and passed by the Parliament in the absence of the Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir.
The budget of Rs 1,18,728 crore of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the current financial year 2024-25 was presented in Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23, 2024.
