Candidates protest 50% graduation rule for JKSSB posts

November 27, 2025 | BK News Service

Aspirants for the recently advertised 600 Finance Accounts Assistant posts have expressed strong resentment over the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board’s eligibility rule mandating a minimum of 50 percent marks in graduation. Candidates said the condition is arbitrary and excludes thousands of otherwise qualified graduates.

They argued that even applicants with 49.99 percent marks stand disqualified despite holding a valid graduation degree. Several candidates said that no such percentage based cut off exists in competitive examinations like IAS, IPS, JKAS or JKPS, and termed the rule unreasonable for a non gazetted post.
“Let the field be open for all. Let the exam decide merit,” the aspirants said, calling the criteria sheer injustice to many who now find themselves excluded despite meeting the basic qualification.
The aspirants appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and direct that the eligibility criteria be revised to “Graduation Only” to ensure equal opportunity for all applicants.
