Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan for sanctioning the construction of 5,061 houses which were damaged due to the recent natural calamities across rural areas of J&K.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor has said, "Grateful to PM Shri @Narendramodi Ji & Hon'ble Union Minister of Rural Development, Shri @ChouhanShivraj Ji for sanctioning the construction of 5,061 houses which were damaged due to the recent natural calamities across rural areas of J&K.”
“This approval under a special project of PMAY-G will bring back safety and stability in the lives of thousands of households. A new home will enable the families to regain economic stability significantly improving the family's well-being,” he said.
Over the last few months, several districts of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides that destroyed several homes in rural settlements.
Many families lost not only their shelters but also their livelihood.
Officials said Jammu region was the worst affected by the calamity, which claimed 150 lives and left 33 people still missing. Housing losses were severe, with over 4,200 homes completely destroyed and more than 8,600 partially damaged.
In the Kashmir division, the calamity caused the complete destruction of 16 houses, severe damage to 57, and partial damage to 791 homes.
