
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo held a detailed meeting with Dr. Niten Chandra, Secretary (Ex-Servicemen Welfare), Ministry of Defence, to review and discuss the implementation of welfare schemes for Ex-Servicemen in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, along with other senior officials.
During the interaction, key issues were raised concerning the welfare and post-retirement support for Ex-Servicemen. These included:
Digitization of a comprehensive Ex-Servicemen database in J&K for effective management
Allowing job applications under the Ex-Servicemen quota during the final year of service to ensure a smoother transition to civilian life
Utilizing retired personnel as NCC trainers, capitalizing on their experience and discipline
Livelihood support for Veer Naris (war widows)
Strengthening the functioning of Sainik Welfare Boards at the district level
Simplifying the resolution of service-related issues
Dr. Niten Chandra expressed the Ministry’s deep gratitude for the contributions of Ex-Servicemen, especially those from J&K, and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to expanding post-retirement opportunities and improving access to reserved job avenues.
Chief Secretary Dulloo, acknowledging the vital role played by Ex-Servicemen, assured continued support from the UT administration. He stated that the government remains committed to ensuring a dignified and secure life for veterans after retirement through proactive and sympathetic policy interventions.
