
Kohima, Oct 5: The Assam Rifles supported the successful conduct of the 2nd Kohima District Inter High School Basketball Tournament, organised by the Kohima District Basketball Association (KDBA) at the Sports Complex, Kohima Garrison, from October 1 to 3.
The three-day tournament brought together school teams from across the district, providing young players an opportunity to showcase their basketball skills and compete in a spirit of discipline and sportsmanship.
In the boys’ final played on October 3, Christ King Higher Secondary School emerged champions after defeating Fernwood School. In the girls’ category, Mezhür Higher Secondary School clinched the title, defeating Nagaland Police Central School in the final.
The closing ceremony and prize distribution were attended by the Inspector General, Assam Rifles (North), who congratulated the winners and runners-up for their performances.
Addressing the participating teams, the IG Assam Rifles (North) encouraged the young athletes to pursue excellence in sports with dedication, discipline and determination. He also appreciated the efforts of the organisers and all stakeholders involved in providing a platform for budding basketball talent.
The Assam Rifles’ support for the tournament reflects its continued engagement with youth-oriented and community initiatives aimed at promoting sports and encouraging healthy competition among young people.
The tournament also provided an avenue for students to develop teamwork, confidence, leadership and competitive skills while strengthening the culture of sports at the grassroots level.
With the successful conclusion of the second edition, the event is expected to further encourage participation in basketball among school students and contribute to the development of young sporting talent in Kohima and Nagaland.
