Due to closure of Srinagar-Leh Highway, scores of families from Kargil staged a massive protest against authorities saying that their stocks have got exhausted and they are unable to reach their destination even as Government is doing nothing for their survival. These families who have moved back from Zojila to Srinagar held protest at Kargil House Bemina and urged upon authorities to either airlift them or provide them stock for their survival.
Pertinently, scores of vehicles are trapped near Zojila Pass while authorities say they are making every effort to resume the traffic on Srinagar-Leh Highway. This Highway is closed from past 10 days. An official said that traffic movement on Srinagar-Leh highway was suspended after rains and snowfall triggered landslides at several places near Zojila Pass.
The protesters said that hundreds of light and heavy vehicles, mostly trucks are stranded on both sides of the Zojila Pass.
“We came back from Zojila to Srinagar after officials informed us that it may take weeks to through Srinagar-Leh Highway. Now our stock has exhausted and we have nothing to eat. Ironically, government is doing nothing for the stranded passengers,” Muhammad Ibrahim, a protester said.
