
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple infrastructure projects across Ganderbal district, focusing on boosting road connectivity, water supply, power infrastructure and civic amenities.
He opened key works including the ₹5.2 crore upgradation of the Dak Bungalow Fatehpora–Gadoora road and ₹8.9 crore worth of link roads in Sherpathri Block. Several major water supply schemes—featuring slow sand filtration plants of 30,000 to 70,000-gallon capacity—were also e-inaugurated.
The CM laid foundation stones for a 4 MGD pre-settling tank for Ganderbal Town’s WTP (₹384 lakh), a 33/11 KV receiving station at Wangath (₹417 lakh), road upgrades at Lar (₹181.06 lakh), a Model Floriculture Centre at Nunnar (₹172 lakh) and pond upgradation at Manasbal (₹308.12 lakh). These projects are being executed by the Jal Shakti, KPDCL and R&B departments.
Later, chairing a detailed district review meeting, the CM instructed officials to ensure farmer awareness on Fasal Bima Yojana, reduce primary school dropout rates, assess the impact of smart classrooms, operationalise pending health equipment—including ambulances and the CT scan machine—and prepare long-term solutions for traffic congestion. He stressed timely fund utilisation and accelerating SASCI scheme targets.
Calling for Sonamarg’s development as a major winter tourism hub, he directed strict action against illegal constructions in its eco-fragile zone and sanctioned two water tankers for Ganderbal from his CDF.
Deputy Commissioner Jatin Kishore presented updates on major works in roads, power, water, agriculture, social welfare, tourism and town modernisation, noting significant progress across sectors and preparations for winter.
The CM inspected departmental stalls showcasing government schemes, innovations and beneficiary initiatives. He distributed welfare benefits worth over ₹3.62 crore under BOCW schemes, sanction letters under Mission YUVA, scooties under Social Welfare, grant-in-aid for a Self-Help Group, PMAY benefits and regularization orders for 14 workers.
At District Hospital Ganderbal, he inaugurated a high-end USG machine, reviewed key requirements including a CATH lab and PG hostel facility, and directed that the hostel be included in the CAPEX plan. A plantation drive was also carried out on the hospital premises.
