Vows to fulfil public promises
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people, assuring that citizens’ expectations across key sectors would be met. He was speaking during a visit to Anantnag district, where he inaugurated and dedicated 15 water supply schemes worth ₹63.97 crore, benefitting 24 villages and one town.
The newly inaugurated schemes — including Hardu Shichan, Dawoodpora Tilwanipora Kamad, Achabal Town, Andoo Pushroo, Deethu Khul, Shergund Aho Paisan, Ranipora Chohar, Gadval, Kasana Mohalla, Narsangri Kachwan, Laigripora, Sangam Sethar, Pushkreeri, Bakerwal Basti Chek I, and Shalgan GB — are designed to deliver safe, filtered drinking water to thousands of residents, significantly strengthening rural water infrastructure in the region.
Addressing a large gathering at Achabal, Omar Abdullah highlighted the milestone, stating, “Today, we have handed over 15 water supply schemes to the people across four assembly segments. Clean, filtered water will now reach your homes. The remaining projects will also be completed soon.”
He assured that development efforts would not stop at water supply. “Whether it is education, health, roads, industry, tourism, social welfare, or tribal affairs — wherever you have expectations from the government, we will meet them. Have faith in us; fulfilling your aspirations is our responsibility,” he said.
Acknowledging governance challenges, Omar stressed the difficulties of managing the state amid inherited financial liabilities. “We inherited thousands of crores in pending payments, but instead of making excuses, we sought solutions. We will present ourselves to you only after delivering on our promises,” he said.
On the political front, he reiterated his party’s demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. “We will fight democratically and peacefully for our rights within the Constitution. There is no despair — we will get our rights,” he asserted.
The event was also addressed by Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmed Rana, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, and several MLAs, who hailed the inauguration as a landmark step for the district’s development.
