
Continuing his district review meetings to personally assess development initiatives, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today chaired a high-level meeting in Baramulla to evaluate the implementation of government schemes and ongoing projects across the district.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Ministers Sakina Itoo, Javed Rana, Javed Ahmad Dar, and Satish Sharma, DDC Chairperson Safina Beig, legislators from Baramulla, Sopore, Pattan, Uri, and Wagoora-Kreeri, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, along with Heads of Departments and senior district officers.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, gave a detailed presentation on sector-wise progress and achievements, covering key areas including power, health, education, rural development, agriculture, and allied sectors. The Chief Minister reviewed the utilization of funds under the District Capex budget and stressed the need for efficient, transparent, and time-bound execution of works.
During the visit, the Chief Minister also e-inaugurated several developmental projects completed at a total cost of ₹5.25 crore. These included the construction of a 1x6.3 MVA Receiving Station at Kalantra (₹1.84 crore), a 33/11 KV 1x10 MVA Receiving Station at Bharahampora, Rafiabad (₹2.73 crore), and the development of footpaths along the National Highway from the Post Office to Carriappa Park in Baramulla (₹0.67 crore), executed by the Urban Development Department.
The meeting discussed constituency-wise development priorities, with the Chief Minister assuring public representatives that all genuine demands would be considered on merit.
Omar Abdullah issued key directions for identifying alternate land for the Industrial Estate and facilitating the expansion of GMC Baramulla. He also instructed officials to initiate the process of handing over TRC Salamabad to the Tourism Department, prepare DPRs for the Drung Reservoir and multi-level car parking at Tangmarg, and ensure early completion of the Tangmarg Administrative Complex.
The Chief Minister directed the Forest and R&B Departments to jointly explore the development of an alternate road to Gulmarg via Baba Reshi. He also emphasized preparing a DPR for the Administrative Complex Baramulla, decongesting and expanding the Fruit Mandi through coordination between the Horticulture and Housing Departments, and creating a district-level land bank to support future developmental projects.
Highlighting youth empowerment, Omar Abdullah called for making Mission YUVA more vibrant, with J&K Bank taking a proactive role in promoting youth entrepreneurship.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth, the Chief Minister underscored the importance of inter-departmental coordination and timely project execution to maximize public benefit and accelerate Baramulla’s overall development.
