Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of developmental projects and implementation of government schemes in Pulwama district.
Calling for accelerated execution, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the slow expenditure under the District Capex and Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS). He directed officers to ensure timely utilization of funds, particularly under the new SASCI scheme, warning that delays could lead to fund withholding.
“I thank the DDC Chairman and MLAs for their valuable inputs. However, my primary concern remains execution — we need faster, result-oriented progress,” Omar said, stressing regular project reviews and prompt redressal of delays.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Ministers Sakina Itoo, Javed Rana, Javid Dar, Satish Sharma, DDC Chairman Abdul Bari Andrabi, and MLAs from Pulwama, Pampore, Rajpora, and Tral attended the meeting. Senior officials, including Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Dr. Basharat Qayoom, were also present.
Dr. Qayoom presented a detailed report on physical and financial achievements under various schemes, highlighting progress across sectors such as roads, education, water supply, power, and agriculture.
Responding to public issues raised by MLAs — including water scarcity, road connectivity, health infrastructure, and illegal mining — the Chief Minister issued on-spot directions for immediate action. He also emphasized the need to provide toilets in schools, especially for girls, urging MLAs to allocate CDF funds for this purpose.
Taking serious note of illegal mining, Omar Abdullah ordered strict enforcement measures. “Action must follow every complaint — illegal mining will not be tolerated,” he said.
During the visit, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a new Shopping Complex at Pampore via virtual mode.
He urged all departments to ensure time-bound completion of projects, reaffirming the government’s commitment to balanced and accountable development across Pulwama district.
