
Srinagar, June 2: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday chaired the 9th Governing Body Meeting of the Royal Springs Golf Course (RSGC) at SKICC, reviewing the premier golfing destination’s operations, infrastructure, finances and future development plans.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, senior administrative officers and members of the Governing Body.
Secretary RSGC Haris Ahmad Handoo presented a detailed overview of the golf course’s financial and operational performance, membership profile, infrastructure requirements and proposed development initiatives. The Governing Body reviewed progress on previous decisions and deliberated on measures to strengthen facilities and improve overall management.
Key proposals discussed included restoration and renovation of the golf course through expert consultants, enrolment of new golf-playing members, construction of a boundary wall to prevent intrusion by wild animals, renovation of huts and club facilities, installation of solar infrastructure to reduce energy costs, and revision of service charges to enhance revenue generation.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to improve visitor experience and maintain internationally accepted standards in turf management, ensuring high-quality greens and fairways. He emphasized upgrading infrastructure and amenities to attract tourists, corporate groups, weekend golfers and sports enthusiasts.
The meeting also reviewed proposals related to employee welfare, recruitment rules, financial management and institutional strengthening. Discussions focused on improving operational efficiency, service delivery and the promotion of golf tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar Abdullah directed the Tourism Department and RSGC management to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for restoration and modernization of the golf course while preserving its ecological character and international reputation. He called for adoption of global best practices in golf course management, hospitality services and turf maintenance.
Highlighting the potential of golf tourism, the Chief Minister urged officials to formulate a strategy for attracting national and international tournaments and positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a leading golfing destination. He also stressed environmental sustainability, financial prudence, employee skill development and long-term institutional growth as guiding principles for future initiatives.
The Governing Body also reviewed budget estimates and the action plan for 2026-27 before concluding deliberations on various development proposals for the golf course.
