
The cold conditions have eased across Kashmir as the minimum temperature increased at most places and settled above the freezing point due to the overcast night skies.
A MeT official said the minimum temperature stayed above the freezing point, barring Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir, and the famous skiing resort of Gulmarg in the north.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar on Tuesday settled at 3.0 degrees Celsius, up from 2.7 degrees Celsius the night before and 5.4 degrees above the season’s normal, according to the MeT official.
The tourist resorts of Gulmarg and Pahalgam recorded sub-zero temperatures with the mercury settling at minus 4.2 degrees Celsius and minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In south Kashmir, Qazigund recorded a low of 3.2 degrees Celsius and Kokernag 2.9 degrees Celsius.
Kupwara recorded a minimum temperature of 2.0 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has forecast generally dry weather over the next few days.
“From December 24-28, the weather would be partly cloudy. On December 29, the weather will be generally cloudy with light snow at isolated higher reaches,” the MeT official said.
He said from December 30-January 1, weather would be generally cloudy with possibility of light rain in plains and light snow in upper reaches at scattered places.
The MeT has advised travellers and transporters to follow traffic/admin advisories.
“There will be moderate to dense fog over plains of Jammu region during next 4 days,” the MeT advisory stated.
