Jammu, Feb 2: Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Monday emphasized the collective responsibility of members to ensure a productive outcome during the ongoing Budget Session.
Addressing the House, Rather said, “People expect solutions to their problems. Significant public resources are invested in conducting legislative sessions, and it is our duty to ensure that this time is used effectively.”
Welcoming the members, he highlighted that the Assembly represents the hopes, expectations, and aspirations of the electorate. “Serving the people is both a privilege and a profound responsibility,” he added.
The Speaker underscored the value of time in the House, noting that “every minute spent here belongs to the people” and urged members to use it judiciously. While acknowledging that democracy allows for disagreements, he stressed that debates must remain dignified and respectful, as proceedings are closely watched by the public.
Rather assured members that the session would provide ample opportunities for all voices to be heard. He noted that the Business Advisory Committee has decided to hold two sittings during the current session to enable members to raise constituency issues, ensure government accountability, and effectively represent public concerns.
Concluding, the Speaker called on members to set an example through their conduct and expressed confidence that the House would fulfil the purpose for which people elected their representatives.
Earlier, the Speaker tabled the Lieutenant Governor’s address before the House.
